Senior Project Geologist

Purpose

The Senior Project Geologist controls, directs and participates in mineral exploration projects. The primary objective of the position is for the successful advancement of projects assigned and will involve supervising and mentoring Geologists and Project Geologists. Secondarily, the Senior Project Geologist will generate ideas and concepts to generate new projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and execute large-scale exploration projects.

  • Build, lead and motivate exploration teams composed of contractors and field staff, with direct onsite supervision.

  • Lead exploration team efforts to develop exploration plans by analyzing prior exploration results and existing data.

  • Identify program logistical needs and work with support staff for contract services, coordinating amongst multiple projects.

  • Make exploration plan recommendations to management and partners.

  • Project promotion and championship.

  • Lead the efforts of exploration teams to execute approved exploration project plans.

  • Ensure that all operations are conducted to the highest level of safety standards, environmental and operational best practices and corporate and social responsibility in accordance with Millrock policies, procedures and expectations.

  • Prepare and / or review and approve project budgets and be responsible to deliver exploration projects on budget (or timely flag budget problems).

  • Coordinate with support staff to assure that land tenure is maintained, assessment reporting requirements are met, and that all necessary permits are acquired and in good standing at all times.

  • Report project results in a comprehensive and timely manner to management, business partners and regulators.

  • Ensure the capture, safety and integrity of all project data.

  • Build relationships with existing and potential business partners, service suppliers, and local and regional project stakeholders.

  • Generate new exploration projects.

  • Make recommendations for mineral right acquisition and relinquishment.

  • Other responsibilities as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Supervision / Influence:

  • Supervise exploration project teams.

  • Work with office administrative staff to meet project goals. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Masters of Science in Geology or related field.

  • Ten years minimum experience, with five years’ experience on drill projects

  • Work in variable terrains and deposit types.

  • Strong technical writing skills.

  • Previous experience working in Alaska.

  • Previous experience managing projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute field programs with minimal direction.

  • Dynamic, high energy, self-motivated and ability to make independent decisions 

  • Must enjoy outdoor work and be able to tolerate difficult weather and terrain.

  • Working knowledge of GIS systems

  • Basic MS Office software

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with Cordilleran Intrusion-Related Gold deposits and Porphyry Copper-Gold deposits

  • Advanced computer skills, 3D modellingAdvanced computer skills

Working Conditions and Physical Work Demands:

  • Comfortable with working in rugged terrain

  • Remote locations often in exploration camp style work environment

  • Extended periods away from home base
